Aces win their third straight game defeating the Sky

The Aces defeated the Chicago Sky 95-83 for their third straight win, improving their season record to 9-6. With the loss, the Sky’s two-game winning streak is stopped, and they fall to 6-10 this season.

Aces Sky 

The Aces would also welcome Chelsea Gray back to the starting lineup, although they would trail 25-21 after the first quarter. A’ja Wilson led the Aces with 15 of their 21 points, while Marina Mabrey led the Sky with 13 points, going 5-5 from the field, 2-2 from three, and scoring 13 points.

The second quarter was all Aces, as they increased their defensive intensity, limiting Chicago to 5-17 shooting (29.4%), while shooting 9-15 (56.2%) and outscoring the Sky 25-14. Jackie Young would have a huge quarter going 3-3 from the field and scoring 8 points. A’ja Wilson scored 8 points in the second quarter, bringing her total to 23 points at halftime and extending her streak of games with at least 20 points to 20.

The Sky would tie the game at 48 with 7 minutes left in the third, but the Aces would go on a run and extend their lead to nine points to end the quarter. Jackie Young continued her strong shooting, scoring 12 points in the third quarter on 4-5 shooting as the Aces outscored the Sky by two points, 26-24. The Aces did an excellent job of slowing Marina Mabrey down in the third quarter, limiting her to 2-7 shooting from the field and 6 points after a strong start in the first half.

The fourth quarter was all Aces from the start, as they opened with an 11-4 run and led 85-67 with seven minutes remaining. Chicago would cut down the deficit halfway through the quarter, reducing it to 11 88-77. They would not go any closer, falling to the Aces 95-83, ending the Sky’s two-game winning run. The Aces defense played well all night, blocking 11 shots, with Kiah Stokes leading the way with six blocks.

A’ja Wilson led the way for the Aces scoring 31 points increasing her 20 point game streak to a record 20 games. Wilson finished the game shooting 10-19 from the field knocking down one three, getting two steals and blocking two shots.

Two other Aces scored in double figures: Jackie Young with 22 points, three three-pointers, and Kelsey Plum with 21 points, 16 of which came in the fourth quarter. Kiah Stokes was excellent for the Aces, grabbing eight rebounds and blocking six shots. Chelsea Gray finished her first start of the season with 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists on 3-5 from the field.

Four Sky players scored in double digits, with Marina Mabrey leading the way with 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists, including three three-pointers. Lindsay Allen ended with 10 points, while Chennedy Carter with 20. Angel Reese scored 18 points and 11 rebounds, extending her double-double streak to nine games.

The Las Vegas Aces will look to increase their winning streak to four when they travel to Washington to face the Mystics. The game will begin at 11 a.m. and will be aired live on WNBA League Pass.
