It's not just Caitlin Clark who's going to be a starter for the upcoming WNBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis. The Indiana Fever will have two representatives in the starting lineups after it was announced that Aliyah Boston was also one of the starters for the big game.
As it turns out, however, Boston came close to becoming an All-Star captain alongside Clark. In fact, the 6-foot-5 forward-center missed out by just 1,351 votes.
Clark was named an All-Star captain on Sunday after getting the most fan votes (1,293,526), among all the players. Napheesa Collier of the Minnesota Lynx came in second with 1,176,020 votes from the fans. Boston finished with 1,174,669 votes.
The voting for the entire All-Star selection is "without regard to conference affiliation," and captains are determined solely by fan votes. This means that Boston could have very well been an All-Star captain if she had gotten more fan votes than Collier.
Since it's the captains who will be selecting their teams for the All-Star Game, Clark and Boston would have gone head-to-head in the draft to pick four starters and six reserves for their respective teams.
This also meant that fans would have seen Clark and Boston battle it out on the court at Gainbridge Fieldhouse during the All-Star Game.
It just wasn't to be, though, and it now appears that they will be on the same side yet again. Clark has already revealed her intention to pick her Fever teammates for her All-Star squad, which means that she will likely be eyeing Boston as her first starter pick.
Either way, what cannot be denied is the fact that the fans are in for quite a spectacle come the All-Star Game on July 19.
