Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream took care of business in the semifinals despite missing All-Star guard Allisha Gray. The 31-year-old injured her left hand in Game 1 against the New York Liberty and had to sit out the rest of the series. However, the Dream still swept the Liberty 3-0, punching their ticket to the WNBA Finals.
Reese led the charge for Atlanta, averaging 20.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 4.3 combined steals and blocks across three games against New York.
The good news for the Dream is that Gray is making significant progress ahead of Game 1 of the finals against the Golden State Valkyries on Saturday. She underwent a minor procedure on her injured left hand but was able to take some shots after Tuesday’s practice. She reportedly remains day-to-day heading into the finals.
Reese addressed her teammate’s current injury situation. The newly crowned Defensive Player of the Year was in good spirits and was happy to see her teammate back working out with the squad.
“Yeah, it feels good,” Reese said Tuesday. “We were teasing her, telling her she owes us 40 minutes, three times.
“So yeah, it’s really good to have her back out there, and she’s getting back in the swing of things, and she looks really good. Same old Lish, the killer that we know. So I’m looking forward to it.”
After the Dream’s practice yesterday, I asked Angel Reese about having Allisha Gray back out there working with the team:

The Dream have not confirmed Gray’s status for Saturday’s game, but she appears to be trending in the right direction.
The 6-foot guard averaged 19.0 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.4 steals in the regular season for the Dream.
Game 1 tips off at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday from Chase Center. NBC/Peacock will broadcast the game nationwide.
