Angel Reese is amid the best WNBA season of her career. She led the Atlanta Dream on Wednesday in securing a 97-71 win over the Golden State Valkyries in Game 3 of the WNBA Finals. The star forward drew a strong message from her Team USA head coach, Kara Lawson, ahead of the matchup.

Reese was part of the national team lineup that competed in the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Berlin, Germany. The three-time All-Star played a key role off the bench, helping Team USA clinch its fifth straight world championship. Lawson saw firsthand how good and coachable she was.

The former LSU star is only two wins away from winning her first WNBA title. A championship would wrap up a historic season for her, setting several WNBA records and earning the Defensive Player of the Year award.

Team USA HC Kara Lawson speaks highly of Dream star Angel Reese

Lawson had nothing but praise for Reese as a player and a person. She highlighted her work ethic and how easy it was to coach the 24-year-old.

“I don’t know that I’ve ever enjoyed coaching a player more,” Lawson said. “I think it’s kind of hard to describe for people because she’s one of those people who, I didn’t have any exposure to her before December. But then again, because of her fame and her personality, you have no exposure, but you have a lot of exposure in terms of you know who she is. And obviously, people like to have opinions about a lot of the players in the league, and she’s one of them… So I have nothing but amazing things to say about my experience with her coaching her.

“If you talk to like former players, they really respect her and like her. I think it’s because we see the type of quality teammate she is the type of competitor that she is and that she would be someone that you could count on in big situations.”

Reese and the Dream are leading 2-1 in the finals and will host Game 4 at State Farm Arena. They have dominated the last two outings on both ends of the floor and are showing no signs of slowing down any time soon. It won’t be surprising to see her lift the Finals MVP trophy if Atlanta goes all the way.
