Angel Reese edges Caitlin Clark in an unexpected stat

Dating back to her days in college, Caitlin Clark made a name for herself for being the ultimate floor-spacer.

Her ability to pull up from distance and knock down shots helped her take down Pete Maravich's long-standing record as the leading scorer in college basketball history.

However, that shooting prowess hasn't translated to the pros yet, especially this season. She shot 34.4 percent from beyond the arc as a rookie, and she's down to 27.9 percent this season.

The shooting struggles for Clark have led to her being bested by a rival in one unexpected stat. Angel Reese, who his shooting 21.1 percent from three this season after shooting 18.8 percent last season, has knocked down more three-pointers on the road than Clark this season.

As shown by StatMuse on X, Reese has sunk three triples away from home, while Clark has only knocked down two.

Reese's low three-point shooting percentage is somewhat expected, given that she's never been known for her floor-spacing skills and is used to dominating inside and on the glass.

To be fair, it's worth noting that Clark has played eight fewer games (13) than Reese (21) this season because of a groin injury, but she's still taken more triples (35) on the road than Reese (15).

It should be just a matter of time before we see some positive regression to the mean, and that groin injury, plus the suffocating and physical full-court pressure she's faced, might have plenty to do with her shooting woes.

Hopefully, she'll be able to shake off that nagging injury, as she's failed to live up to the sky-high expectations and her scoring has fallen nearly three points per game from last season.
