Angel Reese has provided an update on her injury situation. In a video posted on social media, the Chicago Sky forward and WNBA rookie explained the severity of the issue and why she chose to get season-ending surgery.
Reese sustained the injury in Chicago's 92-78 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday night. She fell to the ground while making a play, landing on her hand and wrist awkwardly.
"I hurt my wrist, I am out for the season. I fell on my hand and there is a small crack in my bone," Reese explained in the video. "Basically, the doctors told me that I could either get surgery or not get surgery.
"The risk of not having surgery — I could literally have arthritis at 22 years old. That wasn't an option. The bone could crack, could shatter. Right now, it's like a hairline (fracture). ... This is a very hard place to heal, because the blood-flow is little to none. I'm getting surgery."

Reese didn't want to risk further injury by not getting surgery — a smart decision by the rookie. She ended her season by recording her 26th double-double, scoring 24 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in the Sky's win over the Sparks.
It was a stellar rookie campaign for Reese, who averaged 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds per game. She set the WNBA single-season rebounding record, broke the league's longest streak for consecutive double-doubles (15) and was the WNBA Rookie of the Month in June.
Although it was a disappointing end to an outstanding year, Reese has a bright future in the league. She's just getting started in Chicago.

Dallas Wings Make Paige Bueckers Decision After 18th Loss of the Season
The Dallas Wings had a lot of momentum entering Friday’s matchup against the Golden State Valkyries. This is after Paige Bueckers and Co. blew out the Seattle Storm on Tuesday, 87-63, in their first game back following the WNBA All-Star break. The Wings, however, came crashing back down to earth on Friday with a disappointing loss to the Valkyries at Chase Center, 86-76. Paige Bueckers Comes Up Big for the Wings Bueckers did all she could for Dallas in this one, dropping a team-high 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting, to go along with one rebound, six assists, four steals and two triples in 37 minutes of action. While Bueckers’ effort ultimately came up short, the Wings took to social media shortly after the loss to announce the team’s decision to name the rookie as the Player of the Game. “Paige is your @childrens Player of the Game tonight ” the team posted on X. Bueckers' Effort Not Enough for the Wings Bueckers has been one of the most consistent players on the roster for the Wings amid what has been another forgettable season. Entering Friday’s matchup, the 23-year-old has averaged 18.2 points on 44.9% shooting, 4.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.7 steals in 34.5 minutes per contest. Nevertheless, Dallas has still struggled mightily this year, and Thursday’s defeat was their 18th loss of the campaign. They are now 7-18 on the season and are sitting at the second-to-last spot in the league, above only the 3-20 Connecticut Sun. The Wings will be back in action in a tough back-to-back set as they battle the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday, followed by a matchup against the defending champions, the New York Liberty, on Monday.
Reds starting pitcher to undergo Tommy John surgery
Reds right-hander Carson Spiers will undergo Tommy John surgery that will end his 2025 season and cost him all or virtually all of the 2026 season, MLB.com’s Mark Sheldon reports. Spiers hasn’t pitched since April due to a shoulder impingement, and a minor league rehab assignment that began in early July was cut short when Spiers experienced some biceps soreness. However, an MRI revealed the much worse news of UCL damage, and the righty now faces a lengthy stint on the sidelines. Spiers has at least been amassing Major League service time while on the Reds’ IL, and he’ll continue to do so during his time on the 60-day injured list in 2026. Given the usual 13-15 month recovery timeline for Tommy John patients, the timing of the surgery makes it unlikely that he’ll be back on a big league mound until the 2027 season, unless Spiers can perhaps get back in time for a peace-of-mind outing or two at the very end of the 2026 campaign. Now in his third MLB season, Spiers was an undrafted free agent from the 2020 class of players who were somewhat left in limbo when the pandemic reduced the 2020 draft to just five rounds. He made it to the Show for a few appearances for Cincinnati in September 2023, and then played a larger role for the Reds last year, tossing 90 2/3 innings while starting 10 of 22 games. His abbreviated 2025 campaign consisted of two starts in three appearance, and 13 1/3 innings. When not starting, Spiers has also operated as a long reliever, bulk pitcher, and a piggyback type of pitcher, so his ability to eat innings was helpful even if the results were shaky. Spiers has a 5.69 ERA over his 117 career frames in the majors, as well as a 19.3% strikeout rate and 7.7% walk rate. His career Triple-A numbers are a little better, and inflated by the 5.94 ERA he posted in 16 2/3 frames with Triple-A Louisville this year during his rehab assignment, when Spiers was naturally focused on getting comfortable and healthy rather than pure performance.
Steelers' Mike Tomlin Sees A Ton Of Promise In Potential High-Impact Rookie
The Pittsburgh Steelers are entering the 2025 season with a new-look roster on the offensive side of the ball. The quarterback position has turned over once again, and DK Metcalf is now the top wide receiver in Pittsburgh after the organization decided to acquire him and then trade away George Pickens. Jonnu Smith has also entered the picture on offense, while Jaylen Warren will be taking over the duties as the lead running back. This is his first time taking on that role, as Najee Harris was the bell cow in Pittsburgh for the last four seasons and he never missed a game. Warren will be the main focus at running back, but the Steelers did a good job of filling out that room as a whole. Signing Kenneth Gainwell in free agency was a good way to bring a veteran presence into the room, and adding Kaleb Johnson in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft was an exciting pick with a ton of value. Head Coach Mike Tomlin was asked about the rookie running back following practice on Thursday, and he had nothing but good things to say about Johnson. "He does, he's highly conditioned and that helps development," Tomlin said. "When you're in really good shape, you can take additional reps and reps equals [getting] better. And so he handled the first leg of it. He's come in really good shape. He's really engaged and obviously he's got some talent. You guys saw that today." Tomlin said this when asked whether or not Johnson has a high floor as a rookie running back in the NFL, and the coach was clearly impressed with the way the rookie was prepared coming into camp. He also seems to know the playbook pretty well. It is hard to tell much from the early training camp practices, but he certainly stood out. The staff in Pittsburgh clearly has high hopes for Johnson, which could lead to more playing time early on. Johnson will begin the season behind Warren, but the two are expected to share the workload in some regard. The rookie has a high ceiling, and Pittsburgh is going to want to take advantage of the entirety of his cheaper, rookie deal. Many have speculated that Johnson will be the lead back by the time the 2025 season is over, with Warren returning to the role of being a third down back, similar to what he did when Harris was on the team. When Pittsburgh initially selected Johnson in the spring, some hated on the pick due to his slower 40-yard dash time. However, the back looks extremely fast on the field, and fans should get a better idea of the kind of player he can be when the Steelers put on the pads next week. Steelers’ Running Back Situation Will Be Interesting To Monitor Gainwell will likely be the third running back on the depth chart during the 2025 season, but he should have some packages and plays where he is the primary focus. He is dangerous with the ball in his hands, especially in the passing game. He and Warren have a similar skill set, while Johnson stands out in the trio. In addition to those three backs, Pittsburgh also has Cordarrelle Patterson on the roster. It was thought that he would be released by this point, but he remains in Pittsburgh for now. He could be cut at the end of camp, as it seems he is the clear fourth running back on the depth chart and he was one of the worst kick returners in the league during the 2024 season. It is known that Offensive Coordinator Arthur Smith likes him and his versatility on offense. It’s his ability to play special teams as well that could keep him on the roster in 2025. Denny Hamlin suffers vicious crash in Brickyard 400 qualifying
The favorite to win Sunday's Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway will have quite a mountain to climb. Denny Hamlin, who was fastest in practice at IMS on Saturday and is searching for his first Brickyard 400 win, suffered a vicious impact during Saturday's NASCAR Cup Series qualifying session. Hamlin was the last car to make a lap during the session, but the No. 11 Toyota broke loose on the exit of turn 2. After tapping the outside wall, he spun into the grass before making hard contact with the inside wall. Hamlin did not produce a qualifying time and will be forced to go to a backup car for Sunday's race. The 58-time Cup Series winner will start last (39th) on Sunday. Hamlin did climb out of the car after the accident. Meanwhile, his Joe Gibbs Racing teammate, Chase Briscoe, secured the pole position for Sunday's race. The top five in qualifying were swept by Toyota, with 23XI Racing's Bubba Wallace joining Briscoe on the front row. The Brickyard 400 will go green shortly after 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, with coverage on TNT, the IMS Radio Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
