Angel Reese of the Atlanta Dream is not afraid to flex her muscles and fight for a rebound. Since arriving in the league as the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, Reese has been a rebounding savant.
Reese excelled early at crashing the glass, setting an all-time WNBA rookie record in rebounds per game (13.1). The former LSU Tigers star broke the WNBA record for total rebounds (446) and offensive rebounds (172) in a season. The St. Frances Academy graduate finished second in 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year voting behind Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever.
Reese followed that up in 2025 by leading the league in total rebounds (377) and rebounds per game (12.6). Now in her first year with the Atlanta Dream, Reese currently leads the league in, you guessed it, rebounds per game (12.3). On Thursday, in Atlanta's game against the Indiana Fever, Reese was involved in an incident while doing what she does best.
With 5:45 remaining in the second quarter, Reese was battling for position with Fever guard Sophie Cunningham for a rebound after Dream guard Isobel Borlase missed a 3-point shot. As Reese prepared to jump, she elbowed Cunningham in the face. Reese was assessed a common foul for the incident, giving her a fourth foul of the night. WNBA players are allowed five personal fouls before they are disqualified. The referees decided to keep the foul as a common foul.
The foul trouble did not hamper the 6-foot-4 forward, as Reese scored 21 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in 29 minutes of action in the 108-101 win. Reese has been on fire lately, as the 21 points were her second-most in a game this season, trailing only the 25 she scored a week earlier in a 104-90 loss to the New York Liberty.
"Angel Reese was hit with a common foul after catching Sophie Cunningham with an elbow to the face," ClutchPoints wrote on X. "She has 4 fouls in the first half of Dream-Fever. Should this have been upgraded to a flagrant 1? "
