Saturday’s home matchup saw the Chicago Sky suffer a lopsided 107-86 defeat at the hands of the Phoenix Mercury, a game in which the Mercury shattered their franchise record with 17 made three-pointers.

Sami Whitcomb led the barrage, drilling five triples on her way to 17 points, while Kalani Brown capped the night with a record-setting long ball in the closing seconds.

With the loss, the Sky slipped to 3-9 on the season, anchoring them at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings.

In the wake of the blowout, a fan-captured video surfaced featuring Angel Reese alongside former teammate Kahleah Copper, originally shared via Reese’s Instagram on Saturday.

The fan lamented, “I miss unrivaled ,” referencing the pair’s offseason stint with Rose BC in the Unrivaled league.

Copper, now with the Phoenix Mercury, promptly replied to the reposted clip, writing, “really grandbabbyyyyy ❤️.”

A Rutgers alumna drafted in 2016, Copper spent one season in Washington and seven in Chicago before joining Phoenix in 2024. In 2021, she guided the Sky to their first WNBA championship, winning Finals MVP.

Despite undergoing knee surgery that sidelined her earlier this season, Copper has appeared in two games this season for the Mercury, averaging 12.0 points, 1.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists per contest.

Reese, on the other hand, was selected seventh overall by the Sky in the 2024 WNBA draft and has since become one of the league’s most imposing forwards.

Last season, Reese led the WNBA in rebounds (13.1 per game) as a rookie, earning All-Rookie Team honors and a 2024 All-Star selection.

This year, she has continued to make history, recording a triple-double (11 points, 13 rebounds, 11 assists) in a June 15 win over the Connecticut Sun, becoming the fastest forward and third fastest player to do so.

Both suited up for Rose BC in the Unrivaled offseason league earlier this year, where Reese earned Defensive Player of the Year honors and helped Rose win its first Unrivaled championship.
