Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese drew attention off the court on Sunday as she unveiled a new look while walking the red carpet at the 63rd New York Film Festival.

The 23-year-old WNBA star, known as the “Bayou Barbie,” appeared at the premiere of “A House of Dynamite” at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center, where she also made her film debut.

Reese arrived in a sleek, black sleeveless dress featuring a fitted bodice and flowing skirt. She paired the gown with a thin choker necklace, stacked bracelets and multiple rings.

Additionally, Reese switched from light brown, shown in her recent Instagram beach photos, to a bouncy jet-black look. Alongside the style update, she appeared leaner compared to her final weeks of the WNBA season.

Angel Reese Balances Recovery and Offseason Work

Reese’s red-carpet transformation comes during an important offseason. Her second WNBA campaign ended early due to suspension and injury, but she remains focused on training.

Just one day before the film premiere, she shared a glimpse of her workout routine on Instagram, posting a selfie after running uphill drills. “20 hills on a SATURDAY?!?!?! YA GIRL IS TIREDDDDD,” she captioned, tagging her trainer Tony Ponton.

The hard work follows a year of highs and lows. Reese became the fastest player in WNBA history to record 500 points and 500 rebounds in only 38 games, earning her second All-Star nod. However, the Chicago Sky finished 10–34 and missed the playoffs for the second straight season.

Despite challenges, Reese’s influence continues to grow beyond the hardwood. Her signature sneaker, the Reebok Angel Reese 1, sold out within minutes of its September release in all three debut colorways. Additional styles, including a “Charm City” edition honoring her Baltimore roots, are expected later this fall.

She is also relaunching her podcast, “Unapologetically Angel,” on Thursday, where she plans to discuss basketball, fashion and culture with her trademark candor.

Reese, who boasts over five million Instagram followers, has endorsement deals with Reebok, Beats by Dre, Amazon and several other major brands.

Her rising profile now includes Hollywood. “A House of Dynamite,” directed by Kathryn Bigelow and starring Idris Elba and Rebecca Ferguson, premiered to an 11-minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival earlier this month.

Reese plays herself in a cameo basketball scene with Elba’s presidential character. The film opens internationally in October before streaming on Netflix.

As eye-catching as her red-carpet transformation was, Reese remains vocal about her main goal: winning in the WNBA. She has recorded 49 career double-doubles in just two seasons and has twice led the league in rebounds per game. Still, she has yet to taste postseason success.

The onus is now on the Sky front office to strengthen the roster before Reese reaches restricted free agency in 2028. Until then, the All-Star forward continues to reinvent herself—whether it’s on the court, in business or on the big screen.
