The Phoenix Mercury fulfilled their mission to protect their home floor on Tuesday against the Chicago Sky. The Mercury had a  94-89 victory, improving to 4-1 in the 2025 WNBA season. The Sky had a 16-point lead at one point, but the team couldn't protect it.

The Mercury was led by Satou Sabally, who had 20 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals. Her co-star, the veteran Alyssa Thomas, had 10 points, seven rebounds and 15 assists. Even Phoenix's rookie, Monique Akoa Makani, had a commanding performance with her 13 points on 3-for-6 shooting from downtown.

Unfortunately for the Sky, they remained winless in the season. The Chicago team made history by tying the worst start to the season. The only WNBA team that has no wins, aside from Reese's group, is the Connecticut Sun.

After the game, Reese addressed the state of her team, which remained winless.

“We’re not satisfied,” Reese said. “A lot of us are winners. All of us are winners, we want to win. And I think tonight, we definitely have some sparks where we know our advantages.”

Reese had her third double-double of the season. She finished with 13 points, 15 rebounds and three assists. However, their efforts haven't been enough to be in the win column.

The next time the two teams will face each other will be on June 21. Mercury will travel to the Windy City to try and get another win against the former LSU star and the Sky. Last season, the two teams played three times and the Arizona-based franchise dominated the matchup with a 3-0 record.

For the Mercury, their next game will be against the Minnesota Lynx as they complete their three-game homestand.
