Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham could not help but comment on Angel Reese’s latest issue. This time around, the Atlanta Dream forward was dragged into some beef with Detroit Pistons fans.
Reese’s supposed conflict with the Detroit faithful stems from her relationship with Orlando Magic big man Wendell Carter. Reese drew attention in the midst of the first round NBA playoffs series between the Pistons and the Magic. This is after she posted a photo of Carter dunking on Pistons center Jalen Duren via an Instagram story.
Carter is Reese’s current boyfriend. She was romantically linked to Duren before she started dating Carter, though nothing has been confirmed.
Cunningham could not help but comment on Reese’s situation in a recent episode of her “Show Me Something” podcast.
“Something had to have happened for [Reese] to keep, I don’t know, wanting to embarrass him in some way,” Cunningham said.
The Fever star also said that she thinks it would be best for Reese to “move on” and “worry about he cuter boyfriend.”
Reese usually speaks out on issues that involve her. In fact, her outspokenness got her in trouble with the Sky last season. After publicly threatening to leave the team if her goals no longer aligned with the Sky’s, Reese was suspended for half a game. Chicago ultimately traded her to the Dream in the offseason.
Reese, however, has remained silent after Cunningham’s blunt take. There has been no response from the two-time All-Star, who is probably hoping that the issue dies down on its own. Reese has not commented on her supposed beef with the Pistons fans, either.
Detroit supporters, though, can be an unforgiving bunch. A testament to this is how the fans at Little Caesars Arena started chanting Reese’s name as the Pistons eliminated the Magic in Game 7 of their first-round matchup. Detroit completed a 3-1 comeback against Carter and the Magic.
As for Reese and Cunningham, they will get to face off on the basketball court on June 4. The Fever will host the Dream at Gainbridge Fieldhouse as Reese returns for the first time as an Atlanta player.
