Angel Reese's Chicago Sky Make Unfortunate WNBA History After Two Games

The Chicago Sky are now 0-2 to begin the 2025 WNBA season. Falling to the Indiana Fever in the season opener, Chicago then lost to the New York Liberty in Thursday night's home opener. Finishing last in the 2024 Eastern Conference standings, Chicago is again at the bottom to begin this campaign.

One of the reasons for Chicago's early struggles has been the lack of offensive production from 2024 WNBA All-Star Angel Reese. While she has an impressive 29 rebounds through two games, Reese has shot just 5-for-22 to begin her second professional season.

This includes an 0-for-8 performance on Thursday.

Amid Reese's shooting struggles, Chicago has been historically bad as a group. Losing in blowout fashion to Indiana, the Sky fell 93-58 in the season opener. Thursday's loss was also a blowout, as New York secured a 99-74 victory.

This dropped Chicago's point differential to an abysmal -60 on the season, which is the worst mark through two games in WNBA history (via Underdog WNBA).

Chicago finished 13-27 last season, missing the WNBA playoffs. Reese appeared in 35 straight games before missing the last five due to a wrist injury. Her averages of 13.6 points and 13.1 rebounds earned her one Rookie of the Year vote, as she ultimately finished second to Caitlin Clark for the award.

The 2025 campaign is still young, but this was not the type of start Chicago was hoping for. Back in action against the Los Angeles Sparks on Sunday, the Sky will have a chance to get their first win.
