Big Cameron Brink News Emerges on Friday Amid 402-Day Injury Absence
Vincent Carchietta–USA TODAY Sports

As of writing, the Los Angeles Sparks are 1.5 games outside the playoff picture in the WNBA. They currently have a 10-14 record and are 10th in the league, but a string of wins could suddenly propel them to a playoff spot for the first time since 2020.

The Sparks are on the verge of getting a major boost, too, as 2024 second overall draft pick Cameron Brink closes in on her highly anticipated return. Some big news emerged surrounding the 23-year-old on Friday night after Los Angeles listed her as doubtful to play for Saturday’s game against the defending champs, the New York Liberty.

The last time Brink took the court was on June 18, 2024, against the Connecticut Sun, which is also when she suffered a torn left ACL and a meniscus tear in the same knee. She underwent surgery to address the injury and has since been on her road to recovery.

Will Cameron Brink Play Against the New York Liberty?

The fact of the matter is that Brink is unlikely to suit up in Saturday’s game for the Sparks. However, the fact that she’s been listed as doubtful is an undeniably significant development for the 6-foot-4 forward.

This is the first time Brink has not been ruled out for a game, which strongly suggests that she is close to finally making her much-awaited return to action. If she does, indeed, end up sitting out on Saturday, the former Stanford star's next chance to play would be on Tuesday against the Las Vegas Aces.

Brink played 15 games for the Sparks in her rookie campaign last season, averaging 7.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 2.3 blocks per game.
