Without question, the Breeze BC have been the biggest surprise in Unrivaled Basketball in their first year in the league. The youth on this roster, led by head coach Noelle Quinn, are in the playoffs as the fifth seed. However, their opponent in the first round were the defending champion Rose BC, whom they split with record-wise in the regular season.
In the first quarter, the Breeze BC took a 24 – 16 lead over the Rose. Dallas Wings guard and Breeze BC captain, Paige Bueckers, led all scorers in the quarter with eight points. Also. Los Angeles Sparks guard Rickea Jackson and Minnesota Lynx guard Courtney Williams each had five. Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese scored six points for the Rose BC in the quarter.
Quarter number two was a low-scoring affair with each team having 14 points apiece. Nonetheless, the game was very competitive as the Breeze BC took an eight-point lead into halftime with a score of 38 – 30.
Looking at the third quarter, the Breeze BC held the defending champions to just 11 points as they put up 20. For the Rose BC, a comeback was in order as they found themselves down 58 – 41 ahead of the fourth quarter. Here, the winning point total would be 69 points or more. Ultimately, the Youngins were too much, with a 69 – 50 victory over the Rose BC.
Bueckers, who made the Unrivaled All-First Team, led the game in scoring with 29 points, going four-of-five from three-point range. Additionally, Seattle Storm Dominique Malonga notched a double-double with 14 points and rebounds.
Jackson and Sparks forward Cameron Brink put up nine points each as they accounted for three of Breeze BC’s five blocks in the game. In this instance, Jackson had two blocks while Brink, Bueckers, and Malonga had one each. Lastly, Williams scored eight points with five assists in the win.
As for the Rose BC, guard Kahleah Copper of the Pheonix Mercury led the team with 15 points. Next, Las Vegas Aces guard Chelsea Gray scored 11 points with seven boards as Reese had 10 points with seven rebounds.
Up next for the Breeze BC is a trip to Brooklyn in the Unrivaled Basketball Playoff Semifinals on March 2 versus the Mist. Looking at the regular season, both teams have a win as this is their third and final meeting.
