On Tuesday, before tip‑off between the New York Liberty and Atlanta Dream, former Phoenix Mercury teammates Brittney Griner and Natasha Cloud shared a heartfelt reunion during pre‑game warmups.
The two embraced in what fans immediately recognized as a special exchange, one born of mutual respect and shared history.
Griner later posted pictures of that encounter on Threads. Under one, she penned a playful seven‑word message.
“Didn't know you could jump that high,” She said.
The lighthearted jab carried a genuine admiration. Cloud didn’t miss a beat, however. She responded with her own witty reply, saying, "I just knew 6”8 wanna finna scoop me”.
The Liberty later on bested Atlanta with a score line of 81-86. Griner underperformed in that match with only nine points, two rebounds and two blocks. Cloud added seven to her team's tally, with one rebound, five assists and one steal.
That match ended the commissioner cup final hopes for Atlanta, losing the top spot to Caitlin Clark's Indiana Fever, who beat the Connecticut Sun to secure their spot on July 1 against the Minnesota Lynx.

Griner has always been that loving figure among her teammates, be it former or present. Sophie Cunningham has major respect for the veteran and also shares a special bond with Griner.
Her present teammates, especially Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray, adore her.
“Having her on the court with me, I get to take a deep breath because she’s a force on offense and defense… She’s trying to make my job easier.” Howard said back in May.
Griner has also echoed the same love for them.
“Those three ladies[Howard, Gray, and Jordin Canada] right there… Everything they've shown me and my family… Every time you came to play here, you just felt the atmosphere.”
