It is being reported by Sports Illustrated and ESPN that Phoenix Mercury Star and Olympian Brittney Griner would be the best fit for the Las Vegas Aces in free agency.

Griner is one of the many unrestricted free agents in the WNBA offseason that has flown under the radar of sorts.

The initial expectation is that Griner would continue her career in Phoenix. She has spent the entirety of her 11-year career with the Mercury.

With rumors swirling around the potential of a Diana Taurasi retirement announcement, some analysts believe Griner is eager to start a new chapter with a new organization.

ESPN isn’t discounting the possibility of a Griner exit from Phoenix. They did mention that the Aces would be the best fit for free agency.

The news of Griner’s testing of the free agency waters sent a ripple effect throughout the WNBA community, mainly because Griner said the ‘Phoenix is home…this is it’ in the recent ESPN article from January 23.

The article continued, “But things change, and it would be a significant move for Griner to continue her WNBA career for a different franchise after spending her entire career with the Mercury.  One interesting option if she doesn’t want to move too far is Las Vegas. The Aces have missed having another big who can be an offensive threat alongside A’ja Wilson.”

Could we see the Aces with an outstanding attack on the Griner/Wilson one-two punch this upcoming season?

It will be fascinating to see if the Aces can make it happen.
