Brittney Griner joined the Atlanta Dream last WNBA offseason and had a solid first year with a different team after spending 11 seasons with the Phoenix Mercury. She played in 39 games, averaging 9.8 points, 5.2 rebounds and 1.2 blocks.
The Dream finished with a 30-14 record, claiming the third seed in the playoffs. Unfortunately, they lost to the Indiana Fever in the first round of the postseason.
Now, this WNBA offseason, Griner is joining a new team once again as she returns for the second season of Unrivaled, the 3-on-3 women's basketball league founded by Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart.
In the inaugural season of Unrivaled, Griner was part of Phantom BC. She played in 14 games for the squad, averaging 16.7 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.4 blocks. Unfortunately, the team finished with a 4-10 record and missed the playoffs.
For the 2026 iteration of the league, Griner will now play for Vinyl BC, along with Courtney Williams, Rhyne Howard, Dearica Hamby, Erica Wheeler and Rae Burrell. Howard and Griner are also teammates on the Dream, so hopes are high that their connection will extend into Unrivaled.
Former Chicago Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon is set to coach Griner and the Vinyl BC team.
The rosters for the Unrivaled squads were announced on Wednesday, with the coaches for each team selecting the players.
Unrivaled expanded to eight clubs for 2026, after having only six teams in the previous campaign. The new teams are Breeze and Hive, joining the original squads, Vinyl, Laces, Lunar Owls, Rose, Mist and Phantom.
Unrivaled Season 2 kicks off on Jan. 2 in Miami, although there will also be games played in Philadelphia as part of its tour stop.
