Key Points:
Undoubtedly, the biggest storyline of the WNBA season was the fact that Indiana Fever star guard Caitlin Clark was sidelined for all but 13 games this season. The two-time WNBA All-Star dealt with a left quad injury, left groin injury and a right groin injury.
Despite missing the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year and a handful of other players along the way, the Fever were still able to come within one win of making it to the WNBA Finals. With their season coming to an end, the Fever held exit interviews on Thursday, following a 107-98 loss to the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday.
Aside from updates on her health and her opinions on Taylor Swift, Clark was asked whether she will be playing for anyone else this offseason.
While she has never been directly linked to the WNBA's rival league, "Unrivaled," which is known for its average salary of $220,000, which nearly matches the WNBA's maximum contract base salary, the league's recent announcement had fans hopeful.
The league recently revealed that it was in negotiations with two additional players to join, but it wasn't ready to disclose their identities.
While many fans suggested Clark, the Fever guard indicated that she plans to work with Team USA this offseason when asked what her plans were.
"Probably take a little bit of a break here," Clark said. "Just for maybe a week. I don't want really want to lose the kind of stuff I've worked on just to get my body back to full health. Some USA basketball stuff I need to get ready for. And I need to be able to find some runs to play 5-on-5 just so I can kind of get that feel back."
Although it's hard to imagine Clark would be left off the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics roster like she was for the 2024 Paris Olympics, one of the reasons she didn't meet the criteria for the team was that she hadn't participated in a training camp. The reason is that she was in the middle of a Final Four run in her final year at Iowa.
Although Unrivaled would provide her with game reps, it is a 3-on-3 league, so perhaps not the kind of reps she is looking for at this time. She also likely doesn't want to risk more injuries after the season she had.
Fans would certainly love to watch her, but Clark's recovery is of the utmost importance, so her taking the offseason to prepare for next season would make plenty of sense.
