The No. 1 pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft appears to be recruiting the No. 1 pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft.

New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu was in Indianapolis last weekend for the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game. On Sunday, Ionescu, who also won Friday’s Three Point Contest, posted a series of shots of herself inside Gainbridge Fieldhouse. One such picture was of Ionescu in the locker room sitting next to Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark.

Clark herself left a comment on Ionescu’s post. “looking real natural in that lockerroom,” Clark wrote.

Ionescu, a four-time All-Star and a one-time WNBA champion at 27 years old, will be an unrestricted free agent after the season. As such, that comment from Clark, 23, definitely read like a recruiting pitch.

Clark and Ionescu are known to have a close friendship. Ionescu has served as a mentor figure for Clark during Clark’s WNBA career, and the two shared some moments during this year’s All-Star Weekend as well.

Admittedly, Clark and Ionescu play the same position (point guard) and share a lot of skillset overlap as three-point snipers who serve as the lead ball-handlers for their respective teams as well. But the two are plenty talented enough to potentially make a backcourt pairing work, and it is obviously something that Clark wants to see in the 2026 WNBA season (if a 2026 WNBA season even happens at all amid the current threat of a work stoppage).
