A bettor who wagered on Caitlin Clark recently lost $50,000, as he wagered on the number of assists the Indiana Fever star would make during their matchup with the Atlanta Dream.
Sports media personality David Portnoy posted on X that he placed a bet of $50,000 for Catilin Clark to have over 13 assists for the then-upcoming game of the Indiana Fever against the Atlanta Dream. With odds of +300, he was set for a payout of $200,000 had he won.

However, as the game between the fever and the Dream went on, Clark eventually only managed to get 11 assists, which meant that Portnoy’s $50,000 bet ended up as a loss.
The Indiana Fever suffered a narrow 91-90 loss to the Atlanta Dream in a thrilling matchup at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Despite an early lead, Indiana struggled defensively in the first quarter, trailing 23-31. However, Caitlin Clark helped the Fever rally in the second quarter, scoring 11 points to bring them within two at halftime.
Atlanta responded with a dominant third quarter, hitting five three-pointers to extend their lead to 76-65. Indiana fought back in the final minutes, briefly taking the lead with 21 seconds remaining, but Rhyne Howard’s clutch free throws secured the win for Atlanta.
Clark delivered an impressive performance, recording a double-double with 27 points and 11 assists. She also reached two major milestones: her 350th career assist, making her the fastest player in WNBA history to achieve that mark, and her 800th career point, ranking her among the league’s fastest scorers.
Additionally, Clark surpassed Sabrina Ionescu to become the WNBA’s all-time leader in 25-point, 10-assist games, accomplishing the feat in just 42 career games.
Despite the loss, Clark’s standout performance continues to solidify her status as one of the league’s most dynamic players.
During a post-game interview following their season opener against the Chicago Sky, Caitlin Clark opened up about the heated foul incident she had with the Sky’s Angel Reese.
“Let’s not make it anything that it’s not,” Clark said. “It was just a good play on the basketball.”
“I’ve watched a lot of basketball in my life, that’s exactly what it was. I wasn’t trying to do anything malicious, that’s not the type of player I am,” she added. “I went for the ball, and that’s clear as day on the replay, you watch it. It shouldn’t have been upgraded, but again, it’s up to the ref’s discretion.”
While Catilin Clark openly talked about it, Reese has shut down the attempt at a discussion, urging the press to “move on.”
