Caitlin Clark continues climb in WNBA player power rankings

Caitlin Clark is having a banner year with the Indiana Fever

Clark is averaging 22.1 points, 8.3 assists and 3.8 rebounds per game. That's helped her get the Fever to where they need to be with a 25-14 record and trip to the playoffs in hand.

Now, Clark is getting recognized as one of the best in the WNBA. In ESPN's August WNBA player rankings, out on Thursday, Clark is No. 2 on the list. That's up from No. 3 in July. The only player she's behind is A'ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces.

"Clark ranks No. 3 in the league in points per game, No. 1 in assists, tied with Alyssa Thomas, and her gravity has helped Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston have career seasons," Kareem Copeland of ESPN notes in the feature. "The streak ended over the weekend, but Clark recently tied her own WNBA record with six consecutive games of 20-plus points and five-plus assists."

"She also set a career high with eight 3-pointers in a game last week, moving past Diana Taurasi into second place in WNBA history for most career 3-point field goals during a player's first three seasons."

So, there are plenty of reasons for Clark to be named one of the very best in the WNBA. What could give her the edge to make it to No. 1? She basically just needs to keep doing what she's doing. It'll also help if she leads the Fever deep into the playoffs.
