Caitlin Clark Finally Addresses Physical Appearance Change Rumors

In addition to her dominant performance as the WNBA Rookie of the Year, a widely reported stat from last season was mostly out of Caitlin Clark's control. The 23-year-old guard took 17 percent of the league's flagrant fouls, five out of the 30 called for the entire season.

With teams appearing to play more physical against Clark, she took matters into her own hands this offseason. A photo of Clark's arms went viral last month, so when asked about it, she acknowledged the difference in her physical appearance after working on her strength training.

"(Strength training) was my biggest focus on the offseason," Clark said. "Trying to get stronger and really working on that. I'm really thankful for Sarah (Kessler), our strength and conditioning coach. She’s put in a lot of time with me.

"We were in here (the gym) consistently. ... I certainly feel a lot stronger. ... It's going to help me offensively, it's going to help me defensively. It's going to help me not get as tired during games. Definitely one of the focuses of my offseason was just to get stronger."

The Fever will rely on a starting five of Clark, Kelsey Mitchell, Natasha Howard, DeWanna Bonner and Aliyah Boston.

Mitchell averaged the same number of points per game as Clark last season (19.2), and Boston wasn't far behind at 14.0 points per game.

Sophie Cunningham was another big piece added to the Fever's roster this offseason. After six seasons with the Phoenix Mercury, Cunningham should provide a scoring boost off the bench.

Indiana traded the No. 8 pick in the WNBA draft to Dallas to receive Cunningham and the No. 19 pick, which was used to select Makayla Timpson out of Florida State.

The WNBA preseason begins on Friday, and the Fever will begin their preseason on Saturday with a home matchup against the Washington Mystics.
