The Indiana Fever celebrated a special occasion on Wednesday during practice. Veteran guard Sydney Colson turned 36, and the team just had to make sure that they would not let this occasion pass without surprising the 5-foot-8 guard with an endearing gesture.
The Fever are currently in Arizona ahead of Thursday’s road game against the Phoenix Mercury. They held a practice session at PHX Arena on Wednesday, which turned out to be the venue for Colson’s big surprise.
The Fever took to Instagram to share a video of the team surprising Colson by hiring a performer to sing for her on her special day.
“a one-of-a-kind surprise for the one-and-only, @sydjcolson the squad went all out with a singing telegram for her birthday today ” the team posted on Instagram.
Colson was clearly touched by the gesture from her team, with the veteran even giving each of her teammates a hug. Everyone on the squad joined in on the singing, too, as they rocked out to Journey’s classic hit “Don’t Stop Believin’.”
Fever superstar Caitlin Clark not only took part in the celebrations; the 23-year-old was, in fact, one of the leaders in the festivities. Clark was seen taking out her phone to take a video of Colson as she enjoyed the special performance.
Clark posted the said video on her Instagram stories, but she also admitted that it all left her confused.
“Unsure what’s happening but happy bday @sydjcolson,” Clark captioned her post.

It’s all love from Clark, though, as she, too, greeted her vet on her special day.
Clark, however, will remain on the bench for Thursday’s matchup against the Mercury. She has been listed as out and will be sidelined for her ninth straight game due to a re-aggravated groin injury. The reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year currently has no timetable for her return.
This only means that the Fever will need to continue holding down the fort amid Clark’s extended absence. They will be looking to bounce back on Thursday against Phoenix following Tuesday’s disappointing loss to the Los Angeles Sparks, which saw their recent five-game winning streak come to an end.
