Indiana Fever superstar Caitlin Clark received unfortunate news this Saturday regarding one of her former teammates on the Iowa women's basketball team.
Ava Jones, a former Iowa recruit, never got to live out her dream of becoming a prolific college basketball player due to a horrific accident. In 2022, her family was struck by an impaired driver. She suffered torn ligaments in her knee, a shoulder injury and a traumatic brain injury. Her father, Trey Jones, was killed in this senseless tragedy. The driver, meanwhile, was charged with one count of murder, two counts of first-degree assault, one count of assault in the fourth degree and one count of operating a motor vehicle under the influence.
On Saturday afternoon, Jones announced that she's been diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. She received this horrible diagnosis just four days ago.
"I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma after the results from the biopsy came back," she wrote. "This is the news no one ever wants to get, but especially after spending the last 2 and a half years working my butt off and recovering from getting hit by a car. My body is very strong and I am confident in the doctors here at Iowa."
After hearing this news, Clark left a heartfelt comment on Jones' latest Instagram post.
"Praying for you kid," Clark wrote.
Clark wasn't the only Iowa player who commented on this post from Jones. Over the past few hours, Sydney Affolter, Gabbie Marshall and a few others left her know that they're praying for her.
Jones, a former top 100 recruit from the 2023 class, has received plenty of love from the basketball community in the past. That won't change anytime soon.
We're wishing Jones all the best as she enters her battle against cancer.
