There isn’t much to be said about Caitlin Clark that hasn’t already been said. This 23-year-old is the reason why women’s basketball is now a cool thing for people who aren’t fans to discuss. She has not only raised the profile of the game, her own playing style is something that attracts attention from people. She is one of a kind in these terms and even this early in her career, the epitome of excitement.
The Iowa sensation caused a tidal wave of interest to develop in college basketball with her 2023 run in the NCAA tournament. She had a 40-point triple-double in the Elite Eight and then dropped 40 against the South Carolina Gamecocks. Even though Iowa lost to LSU in the final, she had stamped her name in the record books. Caitlin Clark had proved beyond a shadow of doubt that she would be a force to reckon with.
Yet, when she came over to the WNBA, she was faced with all kinds of hurdles that typically aren’t there. The likes of Diana Taurasi questioned her ability, A’ja Wilson rained on her parade by bringing up black athletes’ marketability and she was not selected for Team USA Basketball Women at the Paris Olympics. In the end, she still set record after record and paved the way for WNBA teams to triple their incomes.
Yet, she only finished ninth on the players’ votes for the 2025 WNBA All-Star Game. In spite of the fact that the game would be played at Indianapolis – her stronghold – the players didn’t deem her fit to grace the big game. This caused a tidal wave of reactions from people in sports at all levels in the media. ESPN college basketball announcer Dick Vitale was especially incensed with the way he thinks Clark is being slighted.
Vitale put out a series of tweets on his thoughts on the WNBA players’ All-Star guards ranking the day this came out. He followed through by posting a link reporting on his thoughts today, adding further what he thinks of the WNBA fraternity’s treatment of Clark:
It’s time for ALL in the WNBA to realize the value that CaitlinClark has brought. Many of the talented players r now getting recognition so deserved due to the PR Caitlin has delivered. ENOUGH ALREADY with the pettiness!

The Fever had fallen behind early in the Cup Final against the Lynx, but clawed back after head coach Stephanie White made adjustments to enable their guards to run riot against the stout Lynx defense. Following the Fever’s win, their locker room was abuzz with celebrations and excitement.
Caitlin Clark appeared to address the ‘hate’ that she and teammates Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell had received from their WNBA peers.
Guys I just know everybody in the league is siiiiick.
This was the first time in her WNBA career that Clark had openly and clearly addressed the kind of talk that her peers had kept putting her and her teammates in. She also seems to have openly embraced the villain role against her opponents judging from the reactions she and her teammates had in their locker room. This could be a rallying point for the Fever to galvanize the troops and make a run after.
