The Indiana Fever escaped the Mohegan Sun Arena on Tuesday with an 85-77 victory over the Connecticut Sun, but it came at a price.
Star guard Caitlin Clark left in the final minute of the fourth quarter after pulling up awkwardly following a pass near the basket to teammate Kelsey Mitchell.
Clark limped off the court over to the Fever bench, where she remained for the final 40 seconds with a towel draped over her head.
The Fever announced on Wednesday before their matchup with the New York Liberty — a game they lost 98-77 — that Clark was listed as questionable with a right groin injury, marking her second groin injury in the last month.
While Fever fans are likely staying optimistic Clark’s injury isn’t significant enough to shut her down for a long stretch of time, one doctor isn’t so sure that’s the case.
Dr. Jesse Morse, a sports medicine physician and CEO of The Injury Expertz, posted on X that he believes Clark’s injury could actually be more serious than some want to admit.
“Caitlin Clark appears to have reaggravated her right adductor/groin strain,” Morse wrote on X. “The tricky part about groin strains is they are a very slow healing tissue, easy to reinjure, and constantly required for anything involving the legs. Sometimes even shutting them down for a couple weeks isn’t enough.”

Clark, who’s averaging 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game across 13 contests and was named a captain for the All-Star Game this weekend, has already dealt with a handful of injuries this season.
She missed five games previously over the course of three weeks earlier this season with a left groin injury. She’s also missed significant time with a quadriceps injury that sidelines her another few weeks, and she suffered a hand injury during the preseason.
If the Fever indeed have to shut Clark down for a while, her status for the All-Star Game in Indianapolis is definitely in question. Indiana has just 21 games left in the regular season, and if the team hopes to compete for a playoff spot, it’s going to need Clark to be at full strength.
