Caitlin Clark Responds to Strong Comments From Paige Bueckers
Jeffrey Becker

Caitlin Clark has been under the spotlight since her college days with the Iowa Hawkeyes and that quickly translated to the WNBA. During her rookie season with the Indiana Fever, all eyes were on Clark, who was drafted with the No. 1 overall pick.

Despite all of the pressure, Clark showed out during her rookie season in Indiana. Last season, Clark was named the WNBA Rookie of the Year and ended her first season in the league as a WNBA All-Star starter.

Now, Paige Bueckers holds a similar responsibility.

As the most recent No. 1 overall pick, Bueckers will look to lead the Dallas Wings, bouncing back from a 9-31 season.

Amid Bueckers' rookie season, she was asked about player comparisons, seemingly talking about the pressure she faces, following Clark's historic rookie season.

Clark addressed the same topic from Bueckers, mentioning that it's a media driven topic, much like what the Wings guard explained.

"The media is always going to do that," Clark said. "There’s always going to be comparisons…at the end of the day it’s about how you are going to help your team? How are you going to help yourself get better?"

Caitlin Clark reiterated Paige Bueckers' comments that mention their comparison. Bueckers had previously said that she's running her "own race" and doesn't believe she plays "at all" like Clark.

“I think running my own race not running a race in comparison," Bueckers said. "Because in all honesty I don’t think me and Caitlin play at all alike…I used to think about it and internalize it a little bit more.”

Paige Bueckers made the move to the WNBA after playing four seasons with the UConn Huskies. She led UConn to the national title during her final season with the program.

In her last season at UConn, Bueckers posted 19.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.6 assists per game.
