On Thursday night at Chase Center, the Indiana Fever fell 88-77 to the Golden State Valkyries in what many expected would be an easy win for the Fever.

Prior to the game, Indiana was favored by -12 on the spread, per Action Network.

A large part of the Fever's struggles came from the play of their star guard Caitlin Clark, who finished with just 11 points on 3-of-14 shooting, tied for her lowest scoring output of the season.

Two days later, on Saturday, Clark addressed the media and offered an honest assessment of both her own performance and the team’s effort.

“You know, it’s a 44-game season. I’m not going to play perfect for 44 games, and I think that’s where I really kind of struggled last year at times,” she reflected.

"I held myself to such a level of perfection every single night that I wasn’t really giving myself much grace, and, you know, I didn’t play very well at Golden State… Was I upset at the way my team performed? Absolutely, but that doesn’t define our season by any means."

Clark went on to note that two games prior, she had been "shooting the ball incredibly well," calling her recent struggles "just statistics" but emphasizing the need for the Fever to "play a better game" overall.

The defeat dropped the Fever to 6-6 on the season, leaving them third in the WNBA’s Eastern Conference.

Their .500 mark belies an offense that ranks fourth in the league at 83.4 points per game, while their defense allows 77.9 points per contest (+5.5 average point differential).

Unfortunately, Indiana faces a challenging road trip over the next few days, beginning with a matchup against the Las Vegas Aces on Sunday before a battle with the 8-5 Seattle Storm on Tuesday.

Clark and her teammates will aim to rebound quickly from the Chase Center letdown and build momentum heading into the Commissioner’s Cup final on July 1.
