The Indiana Fever had a night to remember on Tuesday, defeating the Minnesota Lynx 74-59 to win the Commissioner’s Cup.
They did it without star guard Caitlin Clark, who’s still dealing with a groin injury that has now kept her out of three games. Other players stepped up, though, with four of the five starters reaching double figures in scoring.
After winning the WNBA’s in-season tournament and taking home a $500,000 prize pool plus a share of $120,000 in cryptocurrency from Coinbase, the celebrations were on. Champagne bottles were popping in the locker room, and several videos emerged on social media of the Fever players enjoying themselves.
On Wednesday, the Fever’s social media team posted a collection of photos asking Indiana fans, "How we feelin’ this morning?"
In the last photo, they showed a stuffed doll lying on its back on what looked like a wooden box. The Fever tagged guard Sydney Colson, making it look like she was exhausted after a long night of partying.
Clark noticed the photo and reposted it to her Instagram story with an awkward one-word caption.
"Um," Clark said.
Colson deserves to celebrate after providing significant minutes this season in Clark’s absence. The reigning Rookie of the Year has missed more than three games recently, totaling eight missed games after sitting out five earlier in the season with a left quad injury.
Across her 11-year WNBA career, this season ranks as the third-highest in average minutes per game for Colson, at 15.5. On Tuesday, she contributed three points and four assists in 21 minutes on the court.
Despite the late celebrations, the Fever have a quick turnaround and will need to prepare for Thursday night’s home game against the Las Vegas Aces. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on Amazon Prime Video.
