Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever couldn't hold on to their six-point halftime difference over the Las Vegas Aces (42-36 after two quarters) and lost their fifth straight game against the two-time WNBA champions since Clark was drafted with the No. 1 overall pick last year (0-5 head-to-head record).
Despite scoring 19 points, Clark didn't have the best game (7-of-20 from the field and 1-of-10 from deep), which forced Aliyah Boston (26 points and 10 rebounds) and Kelsey Mitchell (20 points) to step up and try to lead the Fever to the win at Michelob ULTRA Arena.
This was the second consecutive loss for the Fever following an 88-77 loss to the Golden State Valkyries on Friday.
Clark didn't have the best game against the expansion, either, as she dropped 11 points (3-of-14 from the field and 0-of-7 from deep). The Fever blew a 59-55 advantage entering the fourth quarter against the Valkyries before doing the same against the Aces (61-58), while allowing at least 30 points in the final period in each game.
Clark's performances and the team's fourth-quarter collapse drew a lot of attention on social media. The former No. 1 overall pick was on the receiving end of criticism as the game ended, with many fans questioning what might be happening with the 23-year-old star and her squad.
"Indiana Fever falling apart in the 4th quarter back to back games. Doesn’t help that Caitlin Clark didn’t show up today as well," one fan said.
"Caitlin Clark is 1-17 from 3 in her last two games. Indiana was leading in the first half of both games, and ended up losing both. The math is mathing. Get well soon," another fan said.
"Caitlin Clark playing like she got money on the Aces. Another (expletive) of a game," a third fan said.
"The old veterans on Las Vegas aces shut down Caitlin Clark," a fourth fan added.
"Caitlin Clark legit just passed the ball to the Aces. No pressure, no defense, nothing. Just for free. Middle school stinky basketball," a fifth fan wrote.
"Aces are rolling late in the game forcing several massive turnovers from Caitlin Clark, Boston and Mitchell doing all they can to stay in this game ," a sixth fan added.
After starring in a physical altercation with Jacy Sheldon and Marina Mabrey of the Connecticut Sun on Tuesday, Clark and the Fever have yet to win another game. They are now 6-7 amid a two-game losing skid.
Indiana will return to action on Tuesday against the Seattle Storm to end their three-game road trip before returning home on Thursday against the Los Angeles Sparks.
