Caitlin Clark will be teaming up with DeWanna Bonner in her sophomore year in the WNBA. The Indiana Fever signed the two-time WNBA champion on February 2 on a one-year deal after her contract ran out with the Connecticut Sun.
On Monday, the Fever set up a press conference to introduce the newest member of their roster. At one point during the conference, Bonner was asked about her thoughts on playing on the same team as the player she had an altercation with during their first-round playoff matchup last year.
“I think it is just two competitive players that wanna win and push their team to get over the finish line,” Bonner said about her infamous clash with Clark. “It’s the playoffs, so emotions are high, Tension is high. But I couldn’t be more excited to step on the court with Caitlin. We had a great workout this morning … to see what she’s already done for this league and this organization is insane.”

DeWanna Bonner said that she would try to make Caitlin Clark and the rest of the Fever team’s life easier. As a 15-year veteran, she also expressed her desire to mentor Clark and help her grow into a better player and so she could pass her teachings to future Fever players.
Last season, the six-time WNBA All-Star averaged 15.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists, and was a key player in the Sun’s campaign for a playoff spot.
Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever had acquired a significant player during the offseason in DeWanna Bonner. The veteran star has been in the league for more than a decade now, and her invaluable experience can help the rest of the Fever roster improve their skill and advance their young careers.
On Monday, The Athletic’s James Boyd asked Clark about her thoughts on Bonner playing with them next season.
“You want your teammates to be just as competitive as you are,” Clark said. “I think training camp is going to be really fun. That’s when you are competing live … I think it’s more the drive of pushing your teammates to get better, and I think that’s exactly what she (Bonner) speaks to when she talks about her leadership.”

“That’s gonna push all of us to get better. When you can see a vet like that come in here and want to get better every single day still, … that’s inspiring. That motivates you to want to be better, too.”
