Caitlin Clark had a chance to push the Indiana Fever to a win over the New York Liberty, but was stripped of the ball on the game's final play and her protests to referees that she was fouled went unanswered.
The loss dropped the Fever to 2-2 on the season, and the game's final play led to some criticism of Clark.
The Fever star had a heated reaction to the no-call, believing that Liberty guard Natasha Cloud fouled her as she knocked the ball loose before Clark could get off a final shot. After the game, Fever coach Stephanie White called out referees for missing what she thought was a clear foul.
"I thought it was egregious, honestly. I thought it was obvious," White said.
But Clark faced her own criticism. CBS News New York sports anchor and reporter Steve Overmyer claimed that Clark embellished the contact "like she got hit by a sniper" and concluded that there was no foul on the play.

“On the final play, Natasha Cloud comes up with the game-winning steal. Was it a foul? Take a closer look,” Overmyer said. “She got all ball. Clark tried to sell it like she got hit by a sniper, but there was no foul, no call."
Clark has generated controversy on the court, with many Fever fans claiming that she takes an inordinate number of hard fouls.
