Caitlin Clark has barely caught her breath after a historic rookie campaign in the WNBA, yet off‐court headlines briefly shifted to her boyfriend’s family this week.

The furor began in Iowa City, where Fran McCaffery’s 15-year run as men’s basketball coach abruptly ended on March 14.

Fran leaves as the program’s all-time wins leader (297) but never once reached the Sweet 16 under his watch.

Against that backdrop, younger daughter Marit McCaffery marked her graduation from the University of Iowa with an Instagram post declaring, “the past 15 years in iowa city couldn’t have ended worse so, thanks Iowa!”

Among the replies was a two-word endorsement from her brother Connor McCaffery, better known lately as Caitlin Clark’s boyfriend: “OG caption.”

That terse nod quickly became a trending reaction among fans.

Yet the bigger story remains Clark herself.

A year after rewriting NCAA history, she translated her Hawkeye heroics into a WNBA phenomenon.

In 2024, Clark shattered rookie norms in Indiana, leading the league in assists (8.4 per game), averaging 19.2 points and 5.7 rebounds, and becoming the first rookie to be named to the All-WNBA First Team since Candace Parker in 2008.

Her court vision and scoring flair powered the Fever to a 20-20 finish, their first 20-win season since 2015.

Long before the professional accolades, Clark’s Iowa resume was already the stuff of legend. She closed her collegiate career as the NCAA Division I all-time leading scorer with 3,951 points, surpassing “Pistol” Pete Maravich

In her senior year alone, she averaged 31.6 points, 8.9 assists and 7.4 rebounds per game, earning every major National Player of the Year award.

As her legend grows, so too will the fascination with the people closest to her — family included.
