Caitlin Clark's Defiant Stance After Stephanie White's Fever Decision

Caitlin Clark made WNBA history against the Seattle Storm, recording the first game with 40-plus points and 10-plus assists. It was a tightly contested matchup, and there was uncertainty surrounding Clark's playing time in the fourth quarter. Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White said ahead of the game that the star guard would face a minutes restriction.

However, Clark made it clear that she had no plans of exiting early, despite her coach's pregame decision. During the postgame presser, she stressed that White and her staff would have heard it from her if they had pulled her out of the contest.

"Steph knows better than that," Clark said. "Trainers know better than that. They would get an earful.

"But I told Steph at halftime (that) I felt really good and I didn't want to lose this game, and hopefully I'm going to do everything I can tonight to take care of my body and then we get back out at it tomorrow.

"But like I said, I can trust all the work that I've put in on my body. I've spent a ton of time on it, and I trust the people around me that have really helped me, and I always find confidence in that. So I know I'm doing all the right things and there was no way I was ever coming out of the game in the fourth quarter."

Clark recorded 45 points built on six three-pointers, along with 10 assists in the 110-107 win. She added two rebounds, four steals and two blocks. The three-time All-Star came up with the right plays late in the game, including a clutch triple.

It remains to be seen if she'll see action on Saturday versus the New York Liberty. Clark left the door open on suiting up in both games of a back-to-back set. However, it will depend on how her back feels in the morning, and if White and the coaching staff give her the green light.
