Following Caitlin Clark's rookie year, the Indiana Fever made some big offseason changes to build around their All-WNBA guard, hoping to contend for a championship.
The Fever added several veterans to their roster, including DeWanna Bonner, Natasha Howard, and Sophie Cunningham. However, with new additions came tough decisions, and players like Erica Wheeler were forced to take their talents elsewhere.
After spending one season playing alongside Clark, Wheeler signed a deal with the Seattle Storm in free agency. On Tuesday, Wheeler and the Storm were able to pick up their fourth win of the 2025 WNBA season, defeating the Dallas Wings 83-77.
Wheeler finished the game with 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting, five rebounds and seven assists. But there was one moment that had her thinking about a potential drug test.
After making a layup while drawing a foul, Wheeler celebrated with a burst of energy, headbutting the base of the hoop. She reacted to the play with a social media post.
"They might drug test me lol BUT ion care!" Wheeler wrote on X. "It’s in me and on me! This is WHO I AM Let’s goooooooo!"

Let’s goooooooo! https://t.co/L6l9JylzXL
Last season with Indiana, Wheeler was selected for three separate drug tests, claiming that the WNBA’s reasoning might have been that she had “too much energy at 33 years old.”
"Just great!" Wheeler posted on Sept 5, 2024. "ANOTHER DRUG TEST! Getting drug tested for the 3rd time this year is insane and I am sure it’s not the last Apple juice coming right up! No more dancing and acting on the bench cause apparently I got too much energy at 33 years old."
Wheeler is off to a strong start to begin her first season in Seattle, averaging 9.9 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game, each of which is higher than last year. Up next for the Storm, a trip to Phoenix to battle the Mercury on Saturday.
