Caitlin Clark’s Hyped Message to Sophie Cunningham Ahead of Fever Debut

The Indiana Fever are just two days away from their long-awaited WNBA regular-season debut against the Chicago Sky. That means the latest installment in the budding rivalry between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.

The Fever went 20-20 last season, but this season, they're expected to be legitimate championship contenders. One reason is the trade that brought them Sophie Cunningham, a veteran guard who spent the last six seasons with the Phoenix Mercury.

Cunningham made a post on her Instagram account declaring herself ready for the regular season after training camp ended.

"and just like that, training camp is complete. come on year 7!" she wrote.

Clark commented on her teammate's post.

"Let's get to ittttt," Clark wrote.

Cunningham has career averages of 7.7 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 22.8 minutes a game. She was the No. 13 overall pick in the 2019 draft by the Mercury after an excellent four years at Missouri.

She's known as an accurate 3-point shooter. Last season, she attempted 4.5 3-pointers a game and made 37.8% of them, and she has a 36.2% career accuracy from beyond the arc.

The hope seems to be that her long-range marksmanship will help prevent opposing defenses from keying too much on Clark and make them pay when they do so.

Another key addition the Fever made is veteran Natasha Howard, a forward who averaged 17.6 points and 6.7 rebounds a game last year with the Dallas Wings. She, along with rookie Makayla Timpson, should greatly boost Indiana's depth and firepower up front.
