  • When: Tuesday, September 3rd
  • Who:  Chicago Sky vs. Las Vegas Aces

The Aces will be hosting the Chicago Sky, which have lost six games in a row and are at risk of losing its grip on the eighth and final playoff spot in the WNBA.

Chicago Sky

With just eight games remaining in the current season, the Chicago Sky are in a precarious position. They are holding onto the fourth spot in the Eastern Conference with a record of 11-21.

The Sky have to be feeling desperate as they travel to Vegas on Tuesday. The team has suffered six consecutive losses, making its upcoming game in Las Vegas critical for the season.

Chicago has a 1-2 record against the Aces this season but has put up a good fight in all three games.

In their recent match against the Lynx in Minnesota, the Sky lost 79-74, tying them with Atlanta for fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

Angel Reese, a rookie for the Sky, achieved a remarkable feat by setting the single-season WNBA record for rebounds. She scored 17 points and grabbed 19 rebounds, marking her 24th double-double of the season.

It was also announced that Chennedy Carter will miss today’s game along with Elizabeth Williams.

Las Vegas Aces

Las Vegas has already accumulated 12 losses this season, twice as many as last season, with eight games left in the campaign.

The team’s overall performance has not been as dominant as before; they currently hold the fifth-best Net Rating (+5.2) compared to their +15.3 mark in the previous year.

Despite the Aces’ defensive struggles, their offensive prowess remains a beacon of hope. Ranking second in efficiency with a 106.2 Rating, they continue to maintain a strong offense—a testament to their potential and a reason for fans to remain optimistic.

In the past week, A’ja Wilson’s exceptional performance has kept the Las Vegas Aces’ season alive as they strive for a third consecutive championship.

During this period, Wilson has averaged 32.25 points and 14.25 rebounds per game, contributing to the team’s three victories in the last four games.

Chicago’s ability to defend the 3-point line deserves recognition. They rank fifth in opponent 3-pointers allowed (7.2 per game) and fourth in opponent 3-point percentage (32.6%).

In matchups against Las Vegas, the Sky’s perimeter defense has been even more effective than their season averages, holding the Aces to 6.6 3-pointers per game and 29.8% shooting from long range in three meetings.

One intriguing aspect of the Aces’ game is their 3-point shooting. Ranking fourth in 3-point field goals with 9.2 per game, they pose a challenge to their opponents.

This unique strength adds an element of unpredictability to their game, making it exciting for fans to watch.

Sky-Aces Best Bet

While I understand the spread being around 15 points, that feels like a lot of points to give the Sky.

They are struggling to hold onto that final playoff spot and despite not having a few key players I believe they will keep the game closer than the 15 point-spread.

A’ja Wilson has been unstoppable of late but the size of Reese and Cardoso down low may be able to slow her down some, I’d take the 15 points and bet the Sky to cover.
