When the spotlight’s on you, it’s not just about the cheers and headlines. You also get the hot takes, the overanalysis and a whole lot of people ready to dissect your every move. For rising WNBA star Angel Reese, that kind of attention has become the norm.

And one voice that’s sparked conversation lately? Candace Parker. She’s offered some sharp critiques of Reese’s game, which led some fans to label her a “hater.” But Parker’s not having it, and she’s got her own perspective on why that couldn’t be further from the truth.

On Tuesday's episode of the "Good Follow" podcast with Ros Golden, Parker was asked about her being labeled an Angel Reese hater. To this she had a strong defense saying.

“Can she [Reese] get to player A or player S or whatever? Yes, she can. Right now, I don’t know if she is alongside those players at that level. You’re measuring her against players who have been in the league for years. There is no hate on Angel Reese, I love her.”

The rivalry between Caitlin Clark and Reese didn’t end in college, it followed them into the WNBA. Both had standout rookie years, but things flared up again this season when Clark was hit with a flagrant foul on Reese, sparking some tension between their teams.

Naturally, people love to compare the two, especially with all the attention they’ve brought to the women’s game. But Parker isn’t here for it. On the Spolitics podcast last month, she said it’s like comparing apples to oranges, pointing out that the Magic vs. Bird comparison doesn’t really apply since Clark and Reese play totally different roles.

Reese and Clark both had a bit of a rough start this year, with Clark dealing with multiple injuries and Reese's team struggling to a 7-15 record. Parker believes both have huge potential; they're just on different paths.
