Chicago Sky Announce Angel Reese News After Loss to Phoenix Mercury

The Chicago Sky (9-29) fought hard against the Phoenix Mercury (24-14) on Thursday night, but ultimately it wasn’t enough—an all-too-familiar theme this season—as they fell 83-79.

After taking a 22-17 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Sky stumbled before halftime, getting outscored by 12 in the second quarter and managing just eight points to enter the break down seven. The Mercury, on the cusp of clinching a playoff berth, capitalized on the momentum at home.

Still, the Sky once again leaned on second-year forward Angel Reese, who delivered another standout performance—a trend since being drafted No. 7 overall in 2024 out of LSU.

Reese posted 15 points, 20 rebounds, four assists, and two blocks in 31 minutes, shooting 5-for-11 from the field and 5-for-7 from the free-throw line.

Following the game, the Sky named Reese their Player of the Game, continuing what has become a recurring theme for the two-time All-Star.

"BOARD BARBIE STRIKES AGAIN," Sky posted.

The Sky were eliminated from playoff contention over a week ago, but they’ve continued to stay competitive in nearly every outing despite their underwhelming record.

Reese, who entered Thursday averaging 14.3 points, 12.7 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.4 steals this season, spoke about the team’s struggles to close out games.

"Sometimes we get a little comfortable," Reese said. "We’ve competed with the best teams…just being able to compete every single possession…we can’t lay down, we can’t get comfortable…when you get comfortable with a good team, they’ll bust your [explicit]."

The Sky now have six games left in the regular season and will be back on the court Saturday night when they travel to Seattle to face the Storm, with tip-off set for 9 p.m. ET.
