Chicago Sky Coach Facing Decision After Roster Move on Tuesday

The Chicago Sky are carrying a 7-15 record into Tuesday's matchup with the 20-4 Minnesota Lynx. The Sky currently sit in 11th place in the WNBA standings for the 2025 season after the All-Star break.

Given the season-ending injury that Courtney Vandersloot suffered in June, as well as the injuries to veterans like Ariel Atkins and Michaela Onyenwere, Chicago needed to add a player on a hardship contract before their next game.

They settled on second-year guard Marquesha Davis, who was released by the New York Liberty earlier in July after being drafted in the first round of the 2024 WNBA Draft.

Davis has already joined the team ahead of Tuesday's matchup against the Lynx. With two of their starting guards from opening day out with injuries, there could be room for her to earn some immediate playing time.

Head coach Tyler Marsh lauded Davis for her abilities on the court, her experience and being ready at the drop of a hat to join the team in Minnesota.

"Still a young player, but she's got a lot of athleticism to her. She's got a year of experience under her belt with a championship organization in New York. We're happy to have her," Marsh said. "I think she'll fit in quite well. The team has embraced her already, so I think that speaks a lot to her as well, to get the notice and then hop on a plane and already be here on the road."

However, according to Chicago State of Mind Sports, Marsh said that it is still to be determined if Davis will be a part of the team's playing rotation against Minnesota on Tuesday evening.

The Sky have employed eight different starting lineups this season due to various injuries and player absences. While Davis is a long shot to start, she could potentially see the floor ahead of rookie Hailey Van Lith, who did not sub into one of the team's recent games.

Tuesday's game tips off at 8:00 p.m. ET at the Target Center in Minneapolis.
