Chicago Sky Coach Reveals Update Amid Kamilla Cardoso's Temporary Leave
Jacob Musselman / For IndyStar / USA TODAY NETWORK

Kamilla Cardoso has been away from the Chicago Sky lineup since June 24, representing her country at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup in Chile.

With the Sky operating without her for back‑to‑back games, Angel Reese and Elizabeth Williams have logged heavy minutes.

Reese, in particular, fresh off a historic four-game stretch in which she's logged 15 rebounds or more (a WNBA record), has kept Chicago afloat, but the missing presence of Cardoso has been felt in each contest.

Coach Tyler Marsh offered an update on Sunday, stressing that Cardoso’s return remains "TBD" for both the Washington Mystics game on Tuesday and the home tilt against the Dallas Wings on Wednesday.

Over her first 14 games this season, Cardoso averaged 12.7 points (career-high), 6.6 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 0.8 blocks per night.

In her rookie campaign last year, she posted 9.8 points, 7.9 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game, earning a spot on the WNBA All‑Rookie Team.

This came one year after winning an NCAA title with South Carolina, earning first team All-American, first team All-SEC and SEC Defensive Player of the Year.

Her sophomore season overseas in the Women’s Chinese Basketball Association saw her named International Player of the Year after averaging 20.2 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.8 blocks and 1.2 steals per game.

In the current AmeriCup tournament, Cardoso has averaged 14.2 points, 10.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 2.2 blocks and 1.2 steals per game, anchoring Brazil’s interior and reminding both fans why she was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
