It’s no secret Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese is having an incredible first year in the WNBA after a historic double-double streak and being named to her first All-Star Game along with Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark. This prompted Michael Alter, the team’s owner, to pull off an epic surprise for the young forward.
Just recently, Reese continued her historic double-double streak, recording her 14th consecutive game with a double-double in a 78-69 win over the Atlanta Dream. Reese posted 11 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, three steals, and three blocks to lead the Sky.
Despite an off shooting night, going 4-of-9 from the field, Reese’s impact extended far beyond the scoring column. She and fellow rookie Kamilla Cardoso did an excellent job protecting the rim, while Chennedy Carter paced the Sky with 19 points.
Reese’s double-double streak was in jeopardy late, but she hit a pair of free throws with just six seconds left to secure the milestone. WNBA fans on social media were quick to salute Reese’s incredible run, with many hailing her as the frontrunner for Rookie of the Year alongside Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark.
The Sky will need to quickly regroup as they travel to face the New York Liberty in a marquee matchup on Thursday. Reese will look to continue her dominant start to her professional career and cement her status as one of the league’s rising young stars.
Before Chicago’s game against the Dream, Sky Owner Michael Alter pulled off a surprise for Reese. This can be seen in a video shared by Annie Costabile on X.

Over the course of 21 games , Reese averaged 14.0 points, 11.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 1.6 steals per contest. Her record of the most consecutive double-doubles was previously held by Candace Parker, a legend Reese is proud to be in the same conversation with.
As it stands, this year’s WNBA Rookie of the Year race is heating up between Clark and Reese. But no matter who wins, the Chicago Sky forward is already a star in her own right already.
