Chicago Sky Receive Good News With Angel Reese Out

Veteran Guard Ariel Atkins Returning From Injury Ahead of Sky-Mystics Game

In the midst of Reese's injury absence, the Sky were also missing veteran guard Ariel Atkins, whom they traded the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA Draft for this offseason. Atkins is the team's second-leading scorer at 13.9 points per game.

Unfortunately, Atkins sustained an injury just before the All-Star break and has not played since July 14 against the Minnesota Lynx. In her absence, the Sky are 0-7 and averaging just 67.3 points per game.

On Tuesday, however, ahead of the matchup against Washington, the Sky received good news amid Reese's injury. Chicago State of Mind Sports reported that Atkins will be available to return to the lineup.

Chicago Sky Head Coach Tyler Marsh Provides Angel Reese Update

Before Tuesday's game, the Sky had a shootaround at Wintrust Arena, and Reese was notably not in attendance. Head coach Tyler Marsh spoke to the media, however, and clarified that Reese was absent due to an illness.

Reese has been sidelined with a back injury for the last few games, and while it's unfortunate that she is under the weather, it would have been more concerning if she had not shown up due to her back injury.

"She woke up not feeling well today, a little under the weather," Marsh said. "So, I told her to stay home for shootaround, and we'll see how she feels. It's not further injury-related."

The Sky's game against the Mystics tips off at 8:00 p.m. ET at Wintrust Arena in Chicago. Washington sits in ninth place in the standings at 13-15 and will be looking to crawl its way back into the playoff picture.
