After the Chicago Sky and Indiana Fever squared off on May 17, the WNBA launched an investigation due to concerning allegations involving the fans at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

There were rumblings about Angel Reese dealing with racist fan behavior after her brief altercation with Caitlin Clark. The LSU product wasn't thrilled about Clark's hard foul in the third quarter, which was upgraded to a flagrant 1.

Neither the Sky nor Fever mentioned any specific remarks made by the fans in Indiana. Nonetheless, the WNBA underwent a full-blown investigation to get to the bottom of this.

On Tuesday, the WNBA revealed that it couldn't verify any racist fan behavior at the Sky-Fever game.

"We have investigated the report of racist fan behavior in the vicinity of the court during the May 17, 2025 Chicago Sky at Indiana Fever game," the league said in a statement Tuesday. "Based on information gathered to date, including from relevant fans, team and arena staff, as well as audio and video review of the game, we have not substantiated it.

"The WNBA is committed to fostering a safe and inclusive environment for everyone and will continue to be vigilant in enforcing our fan code of conduct."

Shortly after the WNBA released their findings, the Sky issued an official statement on social media.

The Sky showed the WNBA appreciation for taking this matter seriously.

"We appreciate the quick action by the league and the Indiana Fever to take this matter seriously and to investigate," the Sky said. "This process demonstrates the league's strong stance on stopping hate at all WNBA games and events, and we will continue to support those efforts."

As you'd expect, the Fever also commented on the league's findings.

"We appreciate the swift and thorough process undertaken by the WNBA to investigate these allegations, which were not substantiated," the Fever said. "At Gainbridge Fieldhouse, we are committed to providing the best possible basketball experience for players and fans where hate speech has absolutely no place. Indiana is home to the world's greatest fans, and we look forward to an exciting season of Fever basketball."

The Fever and Sky will meet again on June 7. That game will be played at the United Center in Chicago.
