Chicago Sky Rule Player Out for Liberty Game

The Chicago Sky suffered a lopsided defeat at the hands of the Indiana Fever on opening weekend of the 2025 WNBA season. The 93 to 58 defeat was demoralizing for the team as nobody outside of Angel Reese performed well.

New head coach Tyler Marsh was unable to adjust in his first career game, which cost the Sky tremendously. Guard Caitlin Clark tortured Chicago throughout the contest, and nobody on the sideline was able to slow her down.

Luckily, the team had plenty of time to dwell on their mistakes and find ways to improve before their second contest of the season.

The New York Liberty are traveling to Wintrust Arena in Chicago to take on the Sky on Thursday, May 22. This will be a tough matchup as the Liberty won the WNBA finals a season ago.

Unfortunately, the Sky will be without one of their veteran players in the contest. Point guard Moriah Jefferson missed the season opener against the Fever, and she will be out once again against the Liberty.

"Chicago Sky status report for the home opener: Moriah Jefferson (leg) is OUT," Bell wrote.

In the season opener, the Sky struggled tremendously to find a backcourt tandem that was able to help the team find its rhythm. Jefferson, given her 10 years of WNBA experience, could be a key cog, but she will be out once again.

Rookie guard Hailey Van Lith could see a bigger role on Thursday as a result of Jefferson's continued absence. She scored four points in just under four minutes in her WNBA debut on Saturday.

The Sky will need to right the ship against the Liberty, which will be a tall task. It is unknown exactly when Jefferson will return from injury, but they cannot afford to wait for her arrival to figure things out.
