Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese Calls Out Media Narratives
Wendell Cruz-USA TODAY Sports

Chicago Sky star forward Angel Reese is not afraid to speak her mind and let her opinion be known. She is one of the stars to come out of the 2024 WNBA Draft class and she wants to make sure that people remember that.

So much attention has been given to Caitlin Clark, the Iowa star who went No. 1 overall to the Indiana Fever. A lot of that attention is warranted; she had record-breaking performances collegiately and led her team to the National Championship Game in back-to-back seasons.

Clark has already had an incredible impact on the WNBA. She is credited as being a major reason the league now has chartered flights. Attendance is through the roof for games she is participating in as well.

Alas, she is not alone in helping increase attention and popularity in the game. Angel Reese wants to make sure that the narrative sometimes shared in the media focusing solely on Clark is squashed and everyone involved gets their due.

“It’s not just one person, I think people don’t realize that (because) the narrative out there is that just one person is changing the game,” Reese said Thursday. (H/T Heavy)

Clark may be the most recognizable name for most fans, but Angel Reese is right; she isn’t doing this alone. The 2024 WNBA draft class features several players who have the potential to become stars at the next level on and off the court.

“It’s a lot of us — me, Kamilla (Cardoso), there’s Cameron (Brink), Rickea (Jackson). There’s so many great players and it’s been long overdue and just being able to see that our impact has been able to change the game,” Reese said.

“I love it for us all and we’re just going to continue to keep going.”

Angel Reese is certainly backing that up on the court. She played a role in the Chicago Sky upsetting the previously undefeated New York Liberty on Thursday night, winning 90-81.

The future is certainly bright for the Chicago Sky. Along with Angel Reese, the team also selected Kamilla Cardoso No. 3 overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft. That is two franchise cornerstones for the team to build around in the frontcourt.
