The Connecticut Sun is playing its final season in the WNBA before the team moves to Houston next year. Sadly, their run so far hasn’t been successful. Starting with five straight losses, the Sun finally earned their maiden victory against the Seattle Storm . But now, as their season progresses, things are going from bad to worse, courtesy of Brittney Griner.
Griner had gone through a lot of ups and downs recently. However, after signing with the Connecticut Sun this year, the 35-year-old looked determined to deliver strong performances. Unfortunately, her injury woes are taking all the spotlight at the moment. Ahead of Monday’s matchup against the Golden State Valkyries, the Sun’s star was listed as out.

This development marked a bizarre turn of events because officials initially listed Brittney Griner as probable with a right rib injury. Just before the game, the Suns downgraded the 35-year-old veteran to ‘out.’ Such a development was puzzling as a player listed as ‘probable’ usually suits up for the game.
Suddenly, things are looking a bit gloomy for Connecticut. The game against the Valkyries will be the third consecutive game the former Atlanta Dream star has missed this season.
And such a situation has suddenly put the Sun in a spot of bother.
The Sun’s front office roped in Griner as one of the mainstays of their team. And in the first three appearances this season, the 10-time WNBA All-Star did have a significant impact on the team. The veteran star averaged 15 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists while controlling Connecticut’s frontcourt.
Unfortunately, with injuries plaguing her season, the franchise is facing a serious problem. At 35, durability is a legitimate factor to consider. The team can definitely survive a couple of games without Griner. But if her injury concerns persist for a longer period, losing out on their primary star will only significantly deplete the roster.
Thus, at the moment, Connecticut will keep a close eye on the proceedings. And the fans will hope for a speedy return of their beloved star.
