CHICAGO — Angel Reese’s future with the Chicago Sky may be coming to a close after voicing public frustration with the organization.
Could this open the door for Reese to land in the desert?
In a recent interview with the Chicago Tribune, the two-time All-Star discussed the team’s stagnant direction and said she wants leadership to strengthen the Sky’s roster in the offseason. Reese’s comments didn’t sit well with the organization and she was suspended for the first half of a game against the Las Vegas Aces on Sept. 7.
Fans believe Reese should be traded from the Sky after how the situation was handled by leadership, with many believing she would make a great fit with the Phoenix Mercury.

Phoenix is no stranger to Reese, who has faced the Mercury multiple times in her two WNBA seasons. She has also formed friendships with players on the team, most notably stars Alyssa Thomas and Kahleah Copper. Reese has publicly praised Copper for her mentorship.
The Sky forward has expressed how much she enjoys playing in front of the Phoenix crowd and the warm reception she receives, even as a visiting player.
“It’s a healthy basketball environment,” she said after the Sky’s loss to the Mercury on Aug. 28. “These are just straight basketball fans. We don’t hear any negativity. Obviously, fans are going to be fans, as far as they’re going to cheer for their own team, but for me, I feel the love here.”
Phoenix already has its Big Three, comprising Thomas, Copper and Satou Sabally. Reese’s rebounding and physicality would offer support in an area where the Mercury could potentially want to improve in the offseason.
This year, the Chicago forward has averaged 14.7 points, with 12.6 rebounds and 3.7 assists.
Whether or not a trade is on the horizon, Phoenix could be a potential landing spot if Reese’s time in Chicago comes to an end.
