Five years after being selected by the Dallas Wings in the 2020 WNBA Draft, Luisa Geiselsöder has officially reported to the team. The 24-year-old center arrived Sunday following a standout season in France and is listed as probable to make her WNBA debut Monday night against the Seattle Storm.
Geiselsöder did not participate in practice due to ongoing medical evaluations but was engaged on the sidelines, observing drills and interacting with teammates and coaches. Wings head coach Chris Koclanes confirmed her arrival and noted the team’s excitement about her potential impact.
“She did not practice today and has to get some medical stuff done,” Koclanes said. “But we’re excited for her to join us. She’s just coming off all sorts of momentum with that French championship.”
Geiselsöder helped lead Basket Landes to the Ligue Féminine de Basketball title this spring, starting throughout the playoffs and playing a key role in the team’s comeback after losing the first game of the Finals. Over 28 games this season with Basket Landes across all competitions, Geiselsöder averaged 11.3 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game, shooting 51.2 percent from the field and 31 percent from the three-point range.
Wings general manager Curt Miller explained that the team had been preparing for Geiselsöder’s arrival throughout the French playoffs, often scheduling flights that changed after each of Landes’ elimination wins.
“She was in an elimination game in the quarterfinals—we had a flight booked. Then she advanced. Then in the semis, same thing,” Miller said. “Then they’re down 0–1 in the championship, and she helps win two straight. So there were many moments we thought she’d get here earlier. But she just kept winning.”
Miller emphasized her fit in the Wings’ system, calling her “a really versatile post player” with the ability to stretch the floor and defend the paint.
“She’s talented with her back to the basket but also can stretch it to three,” he said. “What stood out to me watching her internationally is that she’s an underrated rim defender.”
Geiselsöder enters a Dallas frontcourt still developing its identity following a busy offseason and a season-opening 99–84 loss to the Minnesota Lynx. She fills a clear need for rebounding, rim protection, and floor spacing, especially after missing all of training camp due to her extended European season.
Dallas enters Monday’s game hoping to rebound from a tough second half in the opener. The Wings led after the first quarter and were tied at halftime before being outscored 35–20 in the third quarter by a Lynx team powered by Napheesa Collier’s 34-point performance.
No. 1 overall pick Paige Bueckers made her WNBA debut and finished with 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds. Arike Ogunbowale led the Wings with 16 points, and DiJonai Carrington added 15. Five players scored in double figures for Dallas, which also outpaced Minnesota in fast break points (21–8) and second chance points (15–7).
Kaila Charles provided a spark off the bench with eight points in the fourth quarter, while rookie JJ Quinerly scored her first career basket. Still, defensive breakdowns and third-quarter struggles left Dallas playing from behind for much of the second half.
Geiselsöder’s addition could help fortify the rotation and ease the burden on the Wings’ front line as the team looks for continuity early in the season.
Tipoff against Seattle is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. CT on Monday, May 19, at College Park Center. The game will air nationally on NBATV and locally on KFAA.
