Dallas Wings center Teaira McCowan will depart on Saturday, June 7, to join the Turkish women’s national team ahead of the 2025 FIBA Women’s EuroBasket. Fellow Wings center Luisa Geiselsöder will follow one week later, departing on June 14 to join Germany after Dallas hosts the Las Vegas Aces.

Initial expectations were that both players would leave following the June 13 matchup against Las Vegas, a plan that still holds for Geiselsöder. “We’re playing the Vegas game and then we’re leaving,” she told DallasHoopsJournal.com. McCowan, however, confirmed her participation, “Yeah, I have to go,” when asked about her commitment to Turkey’s national team.

The tournament, held from June 18 to 29, features group phase games across Greece, Germany, Czechia, and Italy. McCowan and Turkey will play in Group A, with all games in Piraeus, Greece, while Geiselsöder and Germany are part of Group D, competing in Hamburg.

Both players’ WNBA contracts will be suspended during international play. They are expected to return ahead of Dallas’ July 3 home game against the Phoenix Mercury.

Dallas Wings Frontcourt Shifts Amid EuroBasket Departures

McCowan’s final appearance before leaving came in Tuesday’s 83–77 loss to the Seattle Storm. She logged just over five minutes off the bench, recording two points and five rebounds.

“We need T… We need T to continue to put pressure on the defense by running the floor and being a presence inside,” Wings head coach Chris Koclanes said about McCowan earlier this season.

She has only come off the bench this season, with her fluctuating role narrowing further in Seattle — a potential indication of her looming departure and the team’s short-term adjustments in the frontcourt. She’s averaged 4.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 0.8 blocks in 13.8 minutes per game.

“ I just come in and do my job, be a professional,” McCowan told DallasHoopsJournal.com when asked about the bench group’s execution in Chicago. “I mean, have to roll with the punches.”

Luisa Geiselsöder Emerging in Expanded Role

Geiselsöder, meanwhile, played nearly 22 minutes in the same game—her most extended action since joining Dallas. She posted six points on 2-of-5 shooting, including two made threes, and added three rebounds, two assists, and three blocks. The performance highlighted her potential as a stretch big, passer, rim protector, and versatility when guarding screening actions.

“As soon as I was on the court, I just stayed locked in,” Geiselsöder said. “I didn’t really think about it being my first time against this team or anything like that. It was fun competing with them and being with the team out there.”

Koclanes also pointed to Geiselsöder’s skill set as a valuable wrinkle for the Wings’ offensive flow, highlighting her ability to stretch the floor and operate as a connector in the half court.

“You also saw Luisa get some extended minutes, and I’m excited about what she brings,” Koclanes said. “She’s a different look from the post—can pick and pop, stretch the defense. She just has a savvy about her. When that first action breaks down, she’s another good connector who can keep the ball moving and get us into the next action.”

Geiselsöder’s growing impact within the Wings’ rotation has stood out to teammates, including Arike Ogunbowale, who credited the German center’s attention to detail and willingness to learn.

“She did great,” Ogunbowale told DallasHoopsJournal.com. “She followed the game plan, always asked questions, always tried to be in the right spot. She really helped us tonight.”

Geiselsöder joined the Wings late after winning a French league championship with Basket Landes, where she averaged 11.4 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game. Her delayed arrival—due to Landes’ playoff run and subsequent medical and FIBA clearance—kept her out of training camp and early practices.

“She’s a whole training camp behind, so we know that putting her on the opening day roster is going to take some time for her to fit in,” said Wings GM Curt Miller before her arrival. “[But we’re] excited for her potential.”

Despite the late start, Geiselsöder has shown adaptability and a growing comfort level with the WNBA’s pace and spacing. She has leaned on teammates like McCowan and Ogunbowale as she continues to learn nuances, such as the defensive three-second rule and the faster, more open WNBA game.

Teaira McCowan – Turkey – Group A (Piraeus, Greece)

Luisa Geiselsöder – Germany – Group D (Hamburg, Germany)

Final Phase – Piraeus, Greece

The top two teams from each group advance to the Quarterfinals. McCowan and Geiselsöder are both expected to return to WNBA action following the conclusion of the tournament.
